Abstract
This article explores the significance of maintaining oral health during pregnancy and its influence on both maternal and fetal well-being. Pregnancy causes hormonal, metabolic, and immunological changes that increase the susceptibility to various oral diseases such as gingivitis, periodontitis, and dental caries. The article analyzes the physiological mechanisms behind these conditions and emphasizes the importance of preventive dental care and regular check-ups during gestation. It also highlights the potential risks of untreated oral infections, including their association with preterm birth, low birth weight, and systemic inflammation. Recommendations for safe and effective oral hygiene practices for pregnant women are provided to promote optimal health outcomes for mother and child.
